In an absolutely wild and crazy game that might resemble something you would see under the Friday night lights, the Zeeland East Chix handed the Forest Hills Eastern Red Hawks their first loss on the season by the score of 19-17. Several Chix put numbers in the offensive categories tonight as Colton Curtiss had 3 hits including a double and a triple. Spencer Viening had 2 doubles and drove in 5 runs. Josh Snyder had 4 hits on the night including a double and a 3 run homerun. Pitcher Andrew Marsh came on in relief of Caleb Voetberg and Kyle Meeuwsen to pitch 4 1/3 innings. Marsh ran out of gas in the top of the 7th but Andy Elzinga came on with the bases loaded to record the final out and earn the save.
Coach’s quote: I don’t think I’ve ever been a part of a game this crazy where both teams had such offensive production. The wind really was not a factor tonight like one might think. Both teams just hit the ball and took advantage of walks by both pitching staffs. We had some defensive miscues tonight but overall our defense came to play. We start conference action on Wednesday so I’m hopeful our offense will continue to be our strength and we can get off to a positive start.
