Friday night Jenison / Zeeland varsity hockey went up against the grandville bulldogs. As is standard issue with the game between these two clubs we saw a lot of hard hits, fast pace offence, huge fan turn out and even a little mystery. Jenison let in two goals one in the 1st period and one early in the second period. Jenison offence pressed hard the last two periods but grandville’s defense kept the Cats out of the net. The Wildcats were not able to answerer back leaving the final score 2-0. Jake Krommendyk was in net for Jenison and did a great job keeping his composure through some extracurricular activity in front of the thin blue line.
Thanks for all the people that came out to make student night a big success and the hockey team really does appreciate the cat pack, you guys are awesome. Fun after skate as well, some of you have potential others may want to stick to the open skates.
Saturday night Jenison / Zeeland Wildcat Varsity hockey squared off against the Holt Rams. The Cat’s offense came out of its little nap a put up three goals in the first period scoring goals were Hunter Jamieson, Joey Hasenjaeger (his first high school goal, congratulations Joey we hope you have many more) and Teemu Hakkala. The second period started the same with Wildcat Ethan Beolkin and Teemu Hakkala scoring two more goals to send them into the break with a 5-0 lead. The Rams came out in the third period with fire playing inspired for a downed team captain. The Rams put two goals in the net in the first 6 minutes of the period. Jenison’s defense tightened up and team captain Brett Veltema put an unassisted goal in the back of the net. The Rams found a way to put one more in, but that would be the last. Teemu Hakkala Battled his way in unassisted to score what would be a hat trick for this young man, congratulations Teemu (we wish you many more).
Special thanks goes out to all the players who passed the puck into good situations to make the goals possible. With assists on the night and leading the way was team captain Chad Lemke who had three assists and Hunter Jamieson with two assists. With an assists apiece were Teemu Hakkala, Tyler Heyboer, Joel Clark and Skyler Vining.
All the players were passing much better and the flow is not just in the helmets anymore but on the ice as well. For you non hockey fans flow refers to some serious long hair which Jenison / Zeeland has.
Next game will Friday the 18th home against Dexter at 6:30pm. This will be Jenison’s Christmas Tournament so there will also be a game on Saturday and time will depend on Friday’s game.
