Wildcat hockey took the green and white and traded it in for pink and black Friday night. The shiny white ice was also turned in to a pretty shade of pink. All for a great cause to fight cancer and show support for one of Jenison’s own. Jenison Zeeland went up against Lowell Caledonia in the annual pink out game.
With Brett Batten in net, Jenison came to play hockey scoring 3 unanswered goals in the first period. Second period the Cats scored 3 more and getting a wakeup call from Lowell… scoring two back to back goals. After these two goals, our boys in pink and black tightened the defense up and let the offense go to work. Scoring 3 goals in the third and taking the win 9-2.
Scoring tonight your captains led the way with Chad Lemke scoring three goals and two assists and Brett Veltema scoring a goal along with 4 assists. Tyler Heyboer our alternate captain gets all A’s for his two goals. Hunter Jamieson & Teemu Hakkala each had a goal and an assist. Last but not least, Ethan VandeSteeg took one all alone to the back of the net. With assists on tonight’s game Joey Hasenjaeger, Ethan Boelkins and Joel Clark.
The student section (a great combination of the Cat Pack, Quack Pack and Chix Coop) is the greatest and we think you kids are awesome, thanks for coming out.
We want to say a special thanks to the Kunzi Family for coming out to see tonight’s game. Blake, all the players were very proud to have your name on their sleeves and they hope tonight they made you proud to be a Wildcat.
After our game Jenison Zeeland hockey team donated $500 to the Pink Out community during the basketball game. Presenting the check for the team was captains Brett Veltema, Chad Lemke and Tyler Heyboer. What a bunch of beaut’s …EH. At least they took their toques off (hats, for you non Canadians), but only because they wanted to show off the flow.
Saturday night Jenison / Zeeland Hockey went up against East Grand Rapids tonight at the Georgetown Ice Center. The Cat’s came up short this game; losing to EGR.
On a good note, the hockey team was able to help out a family from the Jenison schools and bring more awareness of the Pink Out Community to the hockey world. The Jenison families came together along with Zeeland , East Grand Rapids, Lowell and Caledonia who all saw it as being a great cause. A lot of families gave little something to make it …a big something. No matter the colors pink, purple, green, white, maze & blue we all need to be working in one direction….help those in need and find a cure. This was a special weekend and thanks to all of you who put so much time into it, you are awesome.
The hockey team is away this Wednesday night in Holland to take on West Ottawa at 6:30 pm.
