The Zeeland High School Boys Varsity Swim & Dive Team will be hosting the Zeeland Invite on 12/27/2016.
Our swim community as well as many other families and communities have been affected by cancer in the past year, therefore we have decided to partner with the Van Andel Institute to raise money for cancer research. Both teams (boys & girls) will be selling items to raise money/awareness, such as: t-shirts, water bottles, bracelets, fanny packs, lanyards, bandanas, winter hats, cinch bags, purple beads and paper icons (in memory of or in honor of) to be posted on the windows of the pool classroom.)
Why a purple game? The color purple has been adopted as a symbol for cancer survivors. Purple games bring schools and communities together to raise awareness, celebrate cancer survivors, honor loved ones who have passed away, and support research that provides hope to patients and families around the world.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will be donated to further cancer research at Van Andel Institute, which is an independent biomedical research and science education organization committed to improving the health and enhancing the lives of current and future generations. Established by Jay and Betty Van Andel in 1996 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, VAI has grown into a premiere research and educational institution that supports the work of more than 360 scientists, educators and staff.
